The Albion College hunt seat team presented its case as a force to be reckoned this year at the first Intercollegiate Horse Show Association meet of the season, besting 12 other teams at Grand Valley State University on October 7.
Team co-captain Heather Waldron led her riders by example, winning both her novice flat and fences classes and then securing the individual reserve high point award at the end of the day. The victories also qualified her for the IHSA regional show in the spring.
Not to be out-ridden, junior Brittney Stanton took first in her open equitation class and several new Albion team members had victorious debuts as well. In advanced walk-trot-canter, both Claire Tillman and Caroline Bearss won their sections and Paige Beliveau took first in novice flat. Ann Armstrong placed first in beginner walk-trot-canter to help secure the Briton victory.
There will be no rest for the winners over the coming weekend, however, as they defend their regional lead in the October 12 show at Western Michigan University.
