Eleven members of the Albion Hunt Seat team returned early from winter break to compete at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association's Jan. 12-13 doubleheader hosted by Michigan State University. Although some riders were unable to return early to compete at this show, the smaller-than-usual team pulled together and accumulated enough points to come home victorious with the High Point Team award on Saturday beating out the other 12 teams.
Four Albion College school horses were also in attendance for the show, and they were on their best behavior and looking show-ready all weekend. Third year rider Sarah Erdman (Portage/Portage Central) qualified for Regionals in the Intermediate Flat division with a first and second place in her division. Team co-captain Miranda Voege (Carmel, Ind./Park-Tudor) qualified for Regionals in Open Flat with a first and third place.
Other team co-captain Heather Waldron (Burt Lake/Petoskey) won a second and third place in both Intermediate over fences and on the flat. First-year Claire Tillman (West Olive/Grand Haven) won a first and a second in Advanced walk/trot/canter. Meredith Michalec (Rochester Hills/Rochester Adams) and Kayleigh Harvey (Ada/Forest Hills Eastern) cleaned up their Novice Flat divisions, each bringing home a blue ribbon.
