Football Falls At Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. – Kyle Thomas threw a 9-yard strike to Kolby Canfield for Albion College's only touchdown in a 48-10 loss to Hope College.

Albion scored on its second possession of the day. Thomas' 15-yard run moved the Britons into the red zone at the Hope 18. Thomas misfired on passes on the next three downs and the Britons settled for Andrew Fabry's 36-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead with 10 minutes left in the first quarter.

Hope scored the next 34 points as Chris Leigh hauled in a 13-yard touchdown pass from Mason Opple and scored on runs of 9 and 36 yards. Opple also ran for an 18-yard touchdown and Brandan Campbell scored on a 1-yard plunge.

The Thomas to Canfield pass cut the Albion deficit to 34-10 with 5:41 left in the third quarter.

Campbell and Opple each had 1-yard touchdown runs to complete the scoring for Hope.

Albion's offense generated 267 yards. Thomas completed 24 passes for 167 yards. Collin Poore was the leading receiver with 13 receptions for 74 yards. Thomas also tacked on 40 rushing yards.

Drew Shafer led the defense with 10 tackles, including nine solo. Jose Rodriguez also wrapped up nine solo tackles.

Albion will complete the season next Saturday with a 1 o'clock home game against Kalamazoo College.
