WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Corey Wheeler scored a career-high 37 points in Albion College's 97-84 loss to Anderson University in the title game of the Smokey Ballenger Classic Saturday night.
The senior from Detroit, Mich., hit 10-of-17 shots from the field and 13-of-17 from the free throw line. He also grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists.
Boosted by six points from Wheeler and Dylan Bennett, Albion forged an early 20-9 lead.
Albion shot 51 percent from the field in the first half and took a 44-38 lead to the locker room at halftime.
Anderson shot 65 percent from the field, including 6-of-10 from 3-point range, in scoring 59 points in the second half.
Albion, 3-8 overall, begins Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action at Olivet College Wednesday night.
