Trevor McManus, the first-year Albion College men's lacrosse goalkeeper from Canton, Mich., was selected as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, Sheila Blackman, the league's director of media relations, announced Monday afternoon.
McManus stopped 67 percent (16-of-24) of the shots he faced as Albion remained undefeated against MIAA rivals with victories over Adrian College, 14-5, and Alma College, 17-5, last week. He collected nine saves, the most he's made against a MIAA rival this season, against Alma.
"Trevor has been working really hard this season to be at the top of his game each and every day," Head Coach Jake DeCola said. "He has been one of the top performers on our team all year and plays hard every chance he gets between the pipes. He has great leadership in front of him from defensemen Matt Lowes and Dave Brown, but Trevor gets anything that gets through those guys."
Albion, winners of three straight to improve to 9-3 overall and 3-0 against MIAA rivals, begins a three-game homestand this week with a 4 o'clock Wednesday contest against Trine University and a noon face-off against Trine University.
