Albion College, champions of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, has drawn John Carroll University, champions of the Ohio Athletic Conference, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship.
The game will be played Tuesday in Rochester, N.Y., with the winner advancing to a Wednesday contest against third-ranked RIT, champions of the Liberty League.
Albion will take a nine-game win streak and a school-record 15 victories into the Tuesday night contest.
As three-time MIAA champions, Albion is advancing to the NCAA bracket for the third consecutive year. The Britons are 1-2 in their previous tournament appearances (earning an overtime win at Augustana and losing at Ohio Wesleyan in 2014, and losing in overtime to Aurora at home last season).
Albion and John Carroll met in Albion on a chilly evening in mid-March, with the Britons eking out a 7-6 victory. Zach Hubbell, the MIAA's Offensive Most Valuable Player, tacked on the last of his four goals with 26 seconds remaining to lift Albion to the victory.
Seniors Declan O'Grady and Michael Hubert each produced a hat trick as John Carroll got past Capital University, 11-8, in the OAC Tournament championship game.
Winners of its last 10, the Blue Streaks bring a 12-4 record into the Tuesday matchup.
