GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Jake Burris, Tai Sims and Jake Maurer swept the top three places in 3-meter diving to boost Albion College in a quadrangle swimming and diving meet against Calvin College, Carthage College and Ohio Northern University.
Burris achieved a score of 438.70, while Sims finished at 401.65 and Maurer at 394.30.
Burris and Sims were among top place winners on the 1-meter board, as well. Burris soared to first place with a score of 460.25, with finishing third Sims at 375.85.
All-American Nate Kozycki was narrowly defeated in the race to the wall in the 100-yard butterfly. Kozycki reached the wall in 52.16 seconds, five hundredths of a second behind Carthage's Nick Seroni.
Finishing third for the Britons were Jake Huttenlocher in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, Ian Moran in the 100 backstroke, the 800 freestyle relay (Huttenlocher, Mac Robertson, Kozycki and Nathan Fleming).
Head Coach Jake Taber also made special mention of the performance by first-year swimmer Ethan Henninges in the 1,650 freestyle. He finished fifth in the mile-long swim, completing his race in 17:46.43.
"The longer distance events are demonstrating our fitness," Taber said. "Our team dynamic is getting better every day. The group is getting a handle on who we are."
Albion is looking forward to compete at home for the first time this season when it dives into the Dean Aquatic Center next Saturday for an 11 a.m. dual meet against Hope College.
