KENTWOOD, Mich. – Grace Connolly collected a hit in each game to lead the Albion College softball team in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association softball doubleheader against Calvin College.
Game One: Calvin 5, Albion 2
Connolly hit a RBI single in the first inning and Kacy Rossi scored in the fourth as Albion forged a 2-0 lead.
Calvin scored four times in the fourth and it added an insurance run in the fifth to rally for the victory.
Rossi hit a double with two out in the fourth inning and Morgan Deckrow hit a single.
Game Two: Calvin 9, Albion 2
Calvin scored its runs in bunches, with four runs in the fifth and five more in the seventh.
Albion scored in the sixth. Lauren Beougher drew a walk with one out. Beougher advanced to third when Rossi reached base on a throwing error. The next batter, Eryn VanderVlucht, was credited with a RBI when the shortstop misplayed a groundball, allowing Beougher to score. Estacia Martinez lifted a sacrifice fly as Rossi scored.
Albion continues MIAA action with a Tuesday doubleheader at Kalamazoo College.
Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
