Britons close year with tournament title

DELAWARE, Ohio – Brittany Leutz and Evelyn Wischmeyer provided the scoring to turn back a fourth quarter Muskingum University rally as Albion College earned a 73-61 victory in the title game of the Bishop Classic/Hoops for Hope.

Olivia Besancon hit a pair from 3-point range to pull the Fighting Muskies within five with 8:45 to play.

Leutz and Wischmeyer combined to score the next nine points to build the margin back to double figures.

The score was tied at 33 at halftime, but Albion outscored Muskingum, 22-11, in the third quarter as the Britons defense created numerous easy scoring opportunities.

Wischmeyer poured in 23 points, one shy of matching her career high, to walk away as the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Rain Hinton added 15 to gain a place on the all-tournament team.

Maija Gillum and Sam Carter also scored in double figures for Albion with 11 and 10, respectively.

Albion (9-3 overall) returns to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action at Adrian College next Saturday.
