Shanta Loecker, head coach of the women's lacrosse team since 2013, has announced her resignation to pursue the opportunity to serve as head coach at Colorado Mesa University.
"We are thankful for the leadership Shanta provided during her six seasons as head coach at Albion," Athletic Director Matt Arend said. "The program has established itself in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, winning a conference championship and a tournament championship. Emily DeWaters, who served as the assistant coach for the past two seasons, will serve as the head coach in the interim while Albion Athletics works diligently to find the next coach who will continue to build on the foundation set by Coach Loecker."
Taking over a program that did not win a game in 2012, Loecker worked tirelessly to grow the roster and improve the skill level of her athletes. This paid off in the form of five victories in her first season (2013). The Britons finished 8-8 in 2014, 15-3 in 2015 and 10-7 in 2016. The 2015 squad won the MIAA Tournament to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship. The 2016 team completed an undefeated run through the MIAA during the regular season to achieve the program's first league championship.
Loecker guided Albion to its third season with at least 10 wins in 2018, and her record at Albion was 54-42 after six seasons.
