Eding survives knockout rounds in MIAA Relays

HOLLAND, Mich. – Albion College was represented in three of the four knockout round finals during the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Relays.

Rileigh Eding swam past Calvin College senior Anna Serino in the finals of the 50-yard freestyle. Eding, who was second to Serino coming out of the semifinal heats, lowered her time to 25.91 in the finals.

Alexandra Horman (50 butterfly) and Kaitlind Hooper (50 breaststroke) were the runners up in their respective events.

In relay events

  • Eding and Hannah Erickson joined men Mac Robertson and Evan Wonner for first place in the mixed 200 freestyle relay (1:32.80)
  • Anna Moore and Nicole McCann joined Jake Huttenlocher and Nate Kozycki in a runner-up finish in the mixed 200 medley relay (1:41.66)
  • McCann, Horman, Erickson and Eding matched Calvin stroke for stroke in the 500 progressive relay. Ultimately, the Britons finished second. Their time of 4:45.46 was .14 seconds off the pace set by the Knights.
  • First-year swimmer Courtney Swingewood was joined by Henning, Hooper and Horman for third place in the 400 medley relay (4:21.15)

"The team swam well with the tough week of training we had," Albion Head Coach Nick Stone said. "This meet is made to get a lot of swims done in a short period of time, which can be very taxing, but the Britons maintained energy and raced well against the conference competition."

The Albion swimmers and divers return to the pool tomorrow for a MIAA dual meet against Kalamazoo College.
