Volleyball team makes quick work of Saturday rivals

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College was on the court for just more than an hour in each of its Saturday matches as the Britons made quick work of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Adrian College and non-league foe Capital University.

Briton coach Kristin de St. Aubin credited her team for excelling on defense and passing to win both matches in three sets.

Outside hitters Kelsey Gustafson and Chloe Webber finished the day with 17 kills apiece, Taylor Rosenthal contributed 16 kills and four blocks and Marie Pregenzer added 10 kills, five blocks and three aces.

Albion d. Adrian 25-14, 25-12, 25-20

Albion hit .353 with 15 kills in 34 attacks to easily win the second set.

Adrian scored three in a row to take a 14-10 lead in the third set. Kills by Pregenzer and Kate Winter and three Adrian errors pulled Albion even at 15. Pregenzer and Winter combined to block two points as Albion scored the final five points of the match.

Albion d. Capital 25-14, 25-13, 25-19

Albion hit .287 with 37 kills in 94 attacks in the match. Setter Grace VanDorn completed a double-double with 29 assists and 14 digs. VanDorn and Jenna Khoury served up two aces apiece.

Of Note

  • Rosenthal  moved her career total to 915 kills.
  • VanDorn moves past 1,500 career assists. With 1,537 assists to her credit, she is 108 shy of moving into fourth all-time at Albion.
  • Libero Monica Shuk collected 25 digs Saturday, moving her career total to 1,906.
