Huttenlocher wins 1-meter dive, swim and dive wraps up MIAAs

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – On the final day of the MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships, Justin Huttenlocher's win in the 1-meter dive helped the Albion College Britons leave Calvin on a positive note. The men placed third scoring 531 points in the meet. With 494 points, the women's side took fourth.

Huttenlocher won the 1-meter dive with a score of 493.60. Following the meet, he received the MIAA Senior Impact Award, which is presented to those to exemplify outstanding success in the classroom, in the community and in the pool. Huttenlocher sports a 4.0 GPA and is a finance major.

In the 1650 free, Bryn Cavanaugh finished in eighth place with a time of 19:00.84.

With a time of 2:14.33, senior Sarah Griffiths placed sixth in the 200 yard backstroke. In the men's race, Richard Pifer placed eighth with a race of 1:57.57.

Albion saw two women place in the 100 yard free. Hannah Fathman took seventh with a time of 52.17 and Sage Gettings was seventh with a time of 52.95. For the men, Billy Barr was fifth in the event with a time of 46.01.

Sophomore Mattie Smith's time of 2:24.80 earned her a fourth place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke.

Later in the evening, Griffiths finished second in the 200 yard butterfly, turning in a time of 2:08.50.

Declan Tharp finished sixth in the 200 yard fly with a time of 1:53.58.

Ending the night, the women's 400 yard freestyle relay team composed of Fathman, Cavanaugh, Smith and Gettings finished third with a race of 3:34.80.

For the men, Barr, AJ Zako, Nate Cobb and Tharp also took third, finishing at 3:05.54.

Huttenlocher will compete at Diving Regionals next weekend in Chicago. Other teammates will prepare for time trials in hopes to advance to the DIII Swimming Championships.
