Men's Lacrosse scores opening day win

BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. – Albion College experienced some anxious moments as it surrendered three extra-man goals in the second quarter, but it never surrendered the lead.

David DiRado scored two goals 1:05 apart early in the fourth quarter as Albion pulled away for a 14-8 victory over Augustana College at Detroit Country Day School.

Brandon Lebioda put five points on the deck with three goals and two assists for the Britons. DiRado finished with three goals and an assist. John Cooke and Alec Palmer added two goals apiece.

Albion led 5-1 on Collin Bowers goal with six minutes left in the second.

Augustana took advantage of a three-minute un releasable slashing penalty as Trever Moore scored twice and Nick Gallo added a goal to make the score 5-4 at halftime.

Albion boosted the lead to 8-4 on goals by Scott Shepard, Palmer and Lebioda.

Albion's defensive unit comprised of Dave Brown, Brian Griffiths, Matt Lowes, Evan Seurynck, Conner Wysong and goalkeeper Brandon Tata was solid throughout, limiting Augustana to 21 shots.

Albion returns to Detroit Country Day next Sunday for a non-league game against the College of Wooster.
