Britons fall by a goal at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – Logan Collins scored three goals in the fourth quarter, including the game-winner with 1:19 left that lifted John Carroll University to a 10-9 victory over Albion College in non-league men's lacrosse action.

Goals by Jace Conley and Scott Shepard in the final four minutes of the third quarter and a score by Chase Palmer 38 seconds into the fourth boosted Albion to an 8-6 lead.

Collins scored goals 2 ½ minutes apart as John Carroll forged an 8-8 tie and it was a one-goal game from that point on.

Conley scored Albion's final goal. His fourth goal of the night gave Albion a 9-8 lead with 6:18 left.

John Carroll gained the 9-9 tie on Kevin Hack's score with four minutes left.

Albion would only get one more shot off the rest of the way. Albion turned the ball over four times down the stretch, but it had a possession to tie after winning the faceoff after Collins' go-ahead score. John Carroll goalkeeper Jacob Betz made the save on Collin Bowers' shot with 32 seconds left and the Blue Streaks were able to run out the clock.

Conley finished with four goals for Albion, matching the season-high for the first-year attackman from Waterford, Mich.

Shepard added two goals and Jacob Swift also produced a goal for Albion. Gerald Haadsma and goalkeeper Josh Luketic each pounced on five groundballs.

Albion, 1-4 against non-league competition so far, will play its first game on campus this season at 1 p.m. Saturday when Kenyon College visits the Davis Athletic Complex. Albion will be playing to raise funds for the HEADstrong Foundation, an organization offering financial, residential, and emotional support to families affected by cancer.
