ALBION, Mich. – Albion College hoped to make a statement by staying in sole possession of second place Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's soccer standings and impress the many alumni who came out for their first look at the new Alumni Field inside the Davis Athletic Complex.
Instead, Mitchell Metzger's blast from outside of the box lifted Adrian College to the 1-0 result.
Albion had scoring chances, the best was Steven Lockhart's attempt in the 55th minute that was stopped by Adrian goalkeeper Spencer Brown.
Albion finished with a 9-5 edge in shots, but shots on goal were 3-2. Kyle Bourlier generated two shots on goal for the Britons.
Albion (7-7 overall, 6-4 MIAA) will hit the road for its league contests next week. The Britons have a Wednesday afternoon date at Alma College and play at Hope College next Saturday.
