McGinley, Vince gain USTFCCCA All-Academic Awards

Alexis McGinley and Cassie Vince represent Albion College as the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its list of All-Academic performers Monday afternoon.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic awards, McGinley and Vince competed in a NCAA indoor or outdoor track & field championship while achieving at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average.

A first-year student from Bellevue, Mich., McGinley achieved all-Great Lakes region distinction and advanced to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 4x100-meter relay. She was the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) outdoor runner-up in the 100- and 200-meter sprints and the indoor 60-meter event.

Vince, an exercise science major who graduated Summa Cum Laude in May, is adding the USTFCCCA award to a remarkable haul after she was selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-America team by the College Sports Information Directors of America in June.

An Amherst, Ohio, product, Vince achieved All-America status in cross country, racing to a 10th place finish in the NCAA Division III Championship, and indoor track & field, finishing fifth in the 5,000 meters, during the 2018-2019 academic year. Along the way, Vince was named the MIAA Most Valuable Runner in cross country and the Great Lakes Region Track Athlete of the Year for the indoor season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

In addition to the individual accolades, Albion qualified for the USTFCCCA All-Academic team award with a 3.33 cumulative GPA.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email
