Women's track and field takes fourth at MIAA Championships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Albion College women's indoor track and field team finished fourth at the MIAA Indoor Championships on Friday.

Freshman Avery Campbell finished her indoor campaign undefeated in both the 60m and 200m dashes. Campbell won the 200m dash with a time of 26.02 and then went on to win the 60m dash with a time of 7.93.

The distance medley relay squad of Megan McCulloch, Laura Tuttle, Helena Abbott and Samantha Bieth finished second with a time of 13:09.54. Bieth also added an eighth place finish in the mile run, clocking in at 5:29.01. The time set a new Albion College record.

The 4x4 relay team of Helena Abbott, Lauren McDowell, Colette Askins and Avery Campbell took fourth place.

In the triple jump, Ashley Dubois took second with a jump of 10.20m.

McCulloch added a third place finish in the 5000 meter run, clocking in at 18:10.76.

Nayaisha Edmond took third in the 60m hurdles, coming in at 9.52.

Lauren McDowell's time of 1:02.53 gave her a fourth place finish in the 400m dash.

Anna Albaugh had a solid day for the Britons. The junior took fourth in the weight throw (14.17m) and fifth in the shot put (11.42m).

Sylvia Upthegrove finished sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.00m.

In the long jump, Lauren McDowell took sixth with a jump of 4.74m.

"The women performed well today. Though we are a young bunch we get a lot out of our youth," said head coach Lance Coleman. "We had balanced scoring in the field and on the track as well as, in distance, jumps, throws and sprints."

"Today the women performed at an extremely high level, in only their third competition of the indoor season.  They set one school record, eight ACTF all time top 10 performances, eight personal bests and 19 season's bests. These great performances were highlighted by 2 first place finishes by Avery in the 60m and 200m.  Megan McColluch, Ashley Dubios, Nayaisha Edmond, also represented the Britons on the podium for their events. The distance medley relay also represented the Brits on the podium."

The women's track and field team has officially wrapped up its indoor campaign. The men's team will compete in the MIAA Championships tomorrow at Trine University.
