Women's Basketball team at airport

Brits in Paradise: Hawaii Travel Blog with Albion Women's Basketball

The Albion College women's basketball team flew south for winter break to beautiful and sunny Hawaii to play some basketball in paradise. Follow along with the team's trip with our travel blog, featuring first-hand accounts of the team's time in Hawaii.

Day One - Thursday, December 18

Payton Baker, Senior

Yesterday, we left Albion at 5am and drove to the Chicago Airport. We flew nine hours to Honolulu and we were all sleepy during the flight and ready for it to be done. We played games and watched movies to pass the time. Once we got to Hawaii, we drove to our dinner place where we got all this yummy family style food and we ate up. Finally we made it to the hotel and we all relaxed. Some of us went to hang out with our parents, while others took some time to explore Honolulu. The town is great so far, it's like a city filled with shops and people all around

Day Two - Friday, December 19

Anyieth Nhial, Sophomore

Our second day in Hawaii was great! We started things off with a practice session and breakfast. After that we had some free time and packed in shopping, some time at Honolulu's beautiful beaches, and jumped in the hot tub. After that, we ate dinner as a team at Giovanni Pastrami's. Post dinner, we watched a super-fun Cirque du Soleil show and ended the night with film review ahead of our game on Sunday.

Day Three - Saturday, December 20

Day was too jam-packed for a recap. A visit to Pearl Harbor, shopping, and practice filled up the day

Day Four - Sunday, December 21
Ava Guilford, Senior

Our fourth day in Hawaii was officially gameday! We started the day with a team breakfast and film session. We had our game against Knox in the afternoon and of course, we got that win, 83-69. After the game, we caught up with one of our alums and hall of famer, Mary Washburn Suphan '71. We headed back to the hotel from there and got ready to go to a luau. The luau was awesome, we ate traditional Hawaiian food and the best part was getting to watch the flam dancers perform. After the luau, it was back to the hotel to get some sleep before our second game.

Day Five - Monday December 22

Another jam-packed day. The Brits picked up their second win of the trip against Whitworth and then headed to the North Shore of the Island to soak up some sun.

Day Six - Tuesday December 23
Khaleeya Cook, Sophomore

It was a fun last day for us before hopping on the flight home. Snorkeling was very fun, it was awesome getting to swim/float with the turtles and also see different kinds of fish. We also held some sea urchins and learned a little about them. It was a great first time experience for a lot of us. Hiking Diamond Head was also a great experience, it was about 820 feet in the air with a beautiful view. We all made it up and down together. We got some solid food from a sandwich shop before getting to the airport.
