SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Paul Lewis ran his second-fastest time ever as Albion College finished 2nd out of 9 teams gathered for the Cougar Challenge hosted by Cal State University San Marcos.
San Marcos put its scoring runners in the top 8 to finish with 27 points. Albion, with Kendall Maddox, Mitchell Klingler, and Erik Davis running in a tight pack and finishing in the top 20, racked up 60 points.
Lewis was the first collegiate runner to reach the finish line, completing the 8K course in 25:09. He trailed unattached runner Sergio Gonzalez to the line by 6 seconds.
Maddox was Albion's 2nd runner for the first time this season. He reached the finish in 26:19 with Klingler a second behind. Davis established a personal record of 26:23.
John Forsyth, the 5th runner to finish, established his best time of the year at 27:32.
Albion will enjoy southern California for fall break and it will run in its biggest meet of the season – the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship – Nov. 2 in Holland, Mich.
