HOLLAND, Mich. – Mitchell Klingler and Paul Lewis were the first two runners to reach the finish in the season-opening Vanderbilt Invitational as Albion College finished 10 points behind Hope College in the team standings.
Klingler completed his race in 26:41, 10 seconds ahead of Lewis. Albion finished second because Hope's five scoring runners finished in a 26-second pack.
Mitch Clinton, Albion's third runner, was the ninth individual to finish. His time was 27:33. Erik Davis, making his debut at the collegiate level, finished 13th at 28:19, and Don Strite was 15th at 28:48.
Albion will travel to Delaware, Ohio, for a Sept. 7 meet involving teams from the Great Lakes Colleges Association.
