GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Anna Moore won three events and finished second in another and Sarah Kilbride won two events and finished second in another and they received plenty of scoring from their teammates as Albion College finished second in a two-day quadrangular meet.
Calvin College collected 1,123 points to win the meet. Albion finished with 882 ½ points and was followed by Ohio Northern University (760) and Carthage College (699 ½).
"The group was have is swimming with confidence," Head Coach Jake Taber said. "Calvin has won the last 11 league championships and we swam with them."
Moore and Kilbride started the day with Kylene Slocum and Anna Hargrove for a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Moore got Albion in the lead with a 27.74-second leadoff split, but it was Kilbride's third leg (26.86) that decided the race. Albion's winning time was 1:51.18.
Individually, Moore won the 100 butterfly (1:01.03) and 100 backstroke (1:00.02) and she finished runner-up in the 200 backstroke (2:12.22). Kilbride won the 400 individual medley (4:49.59) and was runner-up in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.52).
Albion racked up 57 points in the 400 individual medley. Mary Noble finished fourth, Abigail Slager was fifth, Natalie Nichols was 10th and Haley DeFeyter was 16th.
The Britons collected 54 points in the 100 backstroke as Hargrove (third), Katelyn Killewald (ninth), Haley Wallis (10th), and Maddy Applegarth (15th) scored behind Moore.
Seven Britons produced a 52-point haul in the 100 freestyle. Slocum was fourth, Camila Manrique was seventh, Lauren Pawelec was ninth, Alex Wilkins was 10th, Molly Blank was 13th, Madison Vaive was 14th and Slager was 15th.
Katie Ferrero finished third and Noble was fourth as Albion added 46 points in the 1,650 freestyle. Haley DeFeyter was ninth and Claire Wittkowski was 11th.
The 200 backstroke produced 36 points as Hargrove (eighth), Killewald (11th) and Wallis (15th) scored behind Moore.
"The emergence of Mary Noble and Katie Ferrero gives us flexibility," Taber said. "We're going to improve on the things we're doing well and see how we can best use the versatility."
Albion returns to dual meets Nov. 14 when it swims at Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Kalamazoo College.
