ADRIAN, Mich. -- It was truly a tale of two halves for the Albion College men's soccer team on Wednesday evening as a pair of second half goals lifted the Britons over Adrian College.
With the victory, Albion improved to 10-1-1 overall and 3-0 in MIAA play.
The Bulldogs came flying out of the gates at home and forced sophomore goalkeeper
Tom Veresh into four saves across the first 24 minutes of the tilt. The early pressure paid off, as a shot into the upper right corner beat Veresh to put Adrian ahead 1-0 late in the first half. Despite the deficit, Albion grew into the game coming out of the halftime break.
Robin Ruigendijk and
Alex Bugingo forced Adrian's Eli Sizemore into a pair of saves just minutes into the second frame. The renewed effort was fortuitous, as
Ivan Murillo laced a shot from the edge of the 18-yard box that beat Sizemore to knot the score at 1-1.
Albion kept its foot on the gas, as Ruigendijk and
Jasek Zielaskowski each forced Sizemore into a save shortly after Murillo's tally. The Britons continued to press for the go-ahead goal and once again, Murillo came through in the 74th minute.
Joshua Jasinkiewicz and Ruigendijk started the play with a quick give-and-go that saw Ruigendijk freed of his marker. The freshman raced to the end line and whipped a low cross back into the box towards Murillo. The Kalamazoo, Michigan, product wasted little time and one-timed the ball into the back of the net for the game-winner.
Albion searched for an insurance goal as
Esteban Mercado and Ruigendijk each had dangerous chances turned away over the remaining 16 minutes, but Murillo's tally proved to be enough.
Veresh played the full 90 minutes in goal and finished with five saves.
Lucas Anderson,
Binck-Jan Bakker and Jasinkiewicz all logged 90 minutes on the backline to help seal the win for the Brits.
