ALBION, Mich. -- Missed chances hurt the No. 2 seed Albion men's soccer team's chances against the No. 3 seed Calvin in the MIAA Tournament semifinal, as the Knights bested the Britons, 4-1, at Alumni Field.
After Calvin scored their first goal seven minutes into the match,
Binck-Jan Bakker put an excellent shot on net that a Knight defender tapped out of the net.
Four minutes later, the team's leading goal scorer,
Esteban Mercado, missed a penalty kick. Later on, an Albion goal was scratched because of an offside call.
Calvin added to their lead with a score 29 minutes into the half for a 2-0 advantage and capitalized on a penalty kick goal three minutes later.
The Knights found the back of the net for the final time five minutes into the second half.
Jasek Zielaskowski denied the shutout opportunity with a score in the 88th minute on an assist from
Joshua Jasinkiewicz.
Calvin outshot Albion, 14-9, and
Tom Veresh recorded three saves in net.
The Britons finished one of their greatest seasons in recent memory. Their 12 wins during the 2025 season were the most since 2006 when they went 13-5-2. It was also just the fourth 10-win season in this millennium and earned them their highest seeding in the MIAA Tournament in program history.
