Women third, men fourth at MIAA Championships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Albion College swimming and diving teams concluded their seasons at the MIAA Championships on Saturday. The women placed third overall as the men were fourth in the event.

Senior Mattie Smith brought home Albion's second gold medal of the week, winning the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:19.97.

Kelvin Crone-Willis started the night by placing eighth in the 1650 freestyle (16:38.90). Evan Steele swam a 17:49.58 for 11th place, while Caleb Galvan took 16th.

Alexis Glaser finished eighth in the 200 yard backstroke, clocking in at 2:17.63. Freshman Charlotte Nguyen finished with a time of 2:35.19 for 15th. In the men's event, Esteban Sanchez-Sink placed 12th.

Hannah Fathman took third in the 100 yard free. Chalondra Jewell, Kaitlyn Kreb and Laurel Campbell went 12-13-14 for the Brits. Billy Barr's 45.99 was good for fifth in the men's race, as Richard Pifer ended in 12th in the other heat.

In addition to Smith's win, Emily Evers and Alyssa Glaser scored in the B heat. Owen Schaaf, Galvan and Sanchez-Sink all scored in the B race on the men's side.

Muccino was ninth in the 200 yard butterfly (2:36.64). On the men's side, Crone-Willis swam a 1:58.66 to finish eighth.

Jeremy Romero scored a 381.75 to place third in the men's 1-meter dive.

Both teams' seasons have come to a close. Those advancing to Nationals will be announced in the coming weeks.
