Men's wrestling sees five advance to Saturday

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Albion College men's wrestling team saw five advance to Saturday following day one of the NCAA Regional Tournament. Koen Eberhard, Zak Knapp, Owen McDaniel, Demond Harrison and CJ Krum will all continue their journeys to advance to the national tournament tomorrow. 

125 lbs: Jeremy Sarter dropped his opening bout in a tight sudden victory, but answered with a big 11-4 win in the consolation bout. In a heartbreaker, Sarter dropped his third match of the day in triple overtime. 

133 lbs: Similar to Sarter, Cade Odrobina fell in his first match of the day. Coming out of the consolation bracket, the junior rolled to a 14-2 major decision in his next match. 

141 lbs: Sophomore Koen Eberhard answered an opening day loss with a 9-0 major decision in his next bout. 

149 lbs: Max Honiss won via fall in his first match, needing just 2:25 to pin his opponent. In a tough matchup against UW-Whitewater, Honiss dropped his next bout. 

157 lbs: With a pin in 4:02, Justin Gorman advanced to the winners bracket after his first match. The sophomore narrowly dropped a tough 3-1 matchup, but fell in his third match.

165 lbs: Junior Peyton Brooks came back from a loss in his first match and picked up a much-needed 12-1 major decision. Despite a tough battle, Brooks dropped his third bout of the day.

174 lbs: In just 35 seconds, freshman Zak Knapp won with a pin in his first match. Taking on the region's top seed in his next bout, Knapp was slightly edged out by a 10-7 margin. Knapp later advanced to Saturday with his second fall of the day, coming in 2:56.

184 lbs: Owen McDaniel also had a big answer following a first round loss. The senior pinned his opponent in just 1:44 in his second bout of the afternoon. McDaniel then went on to keep his season alive with an 11-5 victory in the third match.

197 lbs: Demond Harrison won via tech fall to start the day, but dropped his second matchup to a tough opponent. In his final match, the sophomore advanced to Saturday with an 8-0 major decision. 

285 lbs: After a heartbreaker in his opener, CJ Krum answered back with a fall and a 5-1 win. Krum also advanced to Saturday in the heavyweight bracket.

Tomorrow, wrestling begins at 11 a.m. for the fine remaining wrestlers. The top three placers in each weight advance to the national championship.
