Fathman, Smith wrap up illustrious careers

GREENSBORO, N.C. – On Saturday, two of the most decorated Albion College swimmers wrapped up their careers at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. Hannah Fathman and Mattie Smith each bring home an All-American accolade following their final competition. 

Starting the week off in the 50 yard free, Fathman swam a 23.11 in the finals to finish seventh overall. In that race, the senior earned First Team All-America honors. On Thursday, Fathman failed to advance to the finals in the 100 yard butterfly, clocking in a time of 56.85.

Smith's week started on Friday in the 100 yard breaststroke. After swimming a 1:02.72 in prelims, she advanced to the consolation finals where she swam a 1:02.96 to take 10th overall and finish as a Second Team All-American. 

Both swimmers had their seasons come to a close on Saturday in prelims. Fathman swam in the 100 yard freestyle and Smith competed in the 200 yard breaststroke. 

The two wrap up their careers combining for nearly 10 All-American awards and over 10 MIAA Championships.
