KALAMAZOO, Mich. — After dropping Game 1, 3-2, against Kalamazoo, the Albion softball team forced a split after a 10-2, Game 2 victory over the Hornets in six innings.
Game 1
Kalamazoo struck first in the opening frame on a sacrifice bunt to make it 1-0.
Albion got their first run on a
Lilly Zaskowski double to knot the score up in the third. The Hornets posted their final two scores in the sixth on two singles to take a 3-1 advantage.
Emma Schramm led off the seventh with a double, but pinch hitter
Jaden Henderson struck out and
Jessie Anstandig grounded out. With Schramm on third, Zaskowski hit a single to bring her home and make it a one-run deficit.
Down to their final out,
Allie Trantham popped out to end the game.
Zaskowski and Riley Frank each had two hits, while Zaskowski pitched all six frames allowing eight hits and striking out two batters with no walks.
Game 2
It was a different story for the Britons in the second game. After a scoreless first three innings, Albion broke through in the fourth with a Trantham sacrifice fly in the fourth. Then in the fifth,
Kiersten Wilkin hit a double to make it 2-0, while Anstandig notched a two-run single. Zaskowski stepped up and hit a two-run bomb to make it 6-0.
The Hornets got two in the sixth on two doubles, but Albion kept pouring it on with a Frank homer and Anstandig double to plate their final four scores.
Wilkin went 3-for-3 at the plate, and Anstandig brought in four runs. Zaskowski started the first five innings in the circle, allowing five hits with two walks and a strikeout. Henderson pitched the final frame in relief.
