ALBION, Mich. — The Albion softball team wrapped up their 2026 campaign with a 5-2 victory over St. Mary's in Game 1 followed by an 8-0 loss to the Belles in five innings in Game 2 at Dempsey Field.
With the Game 1 victory, Britons head coach
Leigh Ann LaFave notched her 250th career win spanning her time at Albion, Wartburg and Bethany Lutheran. The Britons ended the season at 18-22, their most victories in a single season since 2006.
Game 1
St. Mary's took the first lead of the game in the second on an RBI triple. Later in the frame, they plated another run on a single to make it 2-0.
The Britons closed the gap in the home half of the frame on a
Jessie Anstandig single and tied it up in the fourth on a
Sydney Schoenborn double.
Cameron McDonald singled in the fifth to score Anstandig which proved to be the winning run. Then in the sixth, the Britons plated two more on an Anstandig double.
Lilly Zaskowski shut the door in the seventh by getting out of a jam with runners on second and third to secure the victory.
Anstandig went 3-for-3 at the dish with three RBI, while Schoenborn and Zaskowski each notched two hits. Zaskowski pitched all seven frames, giving up nine hits and no walks.
Game 2
The Belles jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice bunt that scored a run as a result of an error and two doubles.
Four more came in the fourth courtesy of a fielder's choice, passed ball, error and ground out.
St. Mary's scored their final run on a sacrifice fly that ended the game in five innings.
The Britons managed four hits while Zaskowski,
Jaden Henderson and
Alaina Brown all saw time in the circle.
