Rob Brownell

Brownell enters his third season in the 2024-25 school year with the Britons. In the 2023-24 season, he mentored Hannah Fathman and Mattie Smith to First Team All-America performances, as well as MIAA Championships. In his first season as the Britons Head Coach, Albion swim and dive garnered 12 additions to the All-Time Top 10 list, broke 5 pool records, three varsity records, had five NCAA “B” cuts, and had three individuals invited to the NCAA National Championships where one swimmer was named All-American.  The Brits placed third and fourth at MIAAs and had five different swimmers and divers named First Team All-MIAA, and one conference champion.

Prior to Albion College, he spent five years at Olivet College leading the Comets swim and dive programs. In that span, Brownell mentored his swimmers to 101 Top-10 performances at Olivet, eight Pool Records, 12 Varsity Records, five MIAA individual champions, two NCAA Qualifiers and one All-American.

Academically, Brownell’s teams have been named Academic All-American by the CSCAA every semester he has coached for both the Men and the Women, placing as high as 4th among all Division 3 schools.

Prior to his time with the Comets, Brownell served 12 seasons as the varsity head coach at Battle Creek High School, and before that 4 seasons as varsity head coach at San Pasqual High School in San Diego, CA.  During that time he mentored dozens of CIF and State qualifiers, as well as varsity record holders.

A Michigan native, Brownell attended Marshall High School before heading out to the west coast to study at San Diego State University. He now resides near Albion with his Wife, Beth, and two children.
