Albion, Head Women's Wrestling Coach |
Jolynn Harris enters her first season as head women's wrestling coach at Albion for the 2025-26 season.
In January of 2025, women's wrestling became an official NCAA Championship sanctioned sport for the 2025-26 school year. Additionally, the Britons have had multiple national qualifiers in each year of the program's existence.
Harris comes to Albion after having spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Colorado Mesa University, from 2023-25 where she oversaw pre-meet warmups, assisted in weight maintenance of athletes and created practice plans.
While Harris was on staff under two-time Regional Coach of the Year Travis Mercado, the Mavericks earned fifth and eighth-place finishes, respectively, at the 2024 and 2025 National Collegiate Women's Wrestling (NCWWC) National Championships.
She also helped guide seven NCWWC All-Americans and eight NCWWC regional champions during her time as a coach in Grand Junction.
Helping the Mavericks during the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's first two seasons sponsoring women's wrestling, Harris helped mentor 15 All-RMAC wrestlers which included nine conference champions.
"We are so excited to have Jolynn take over the reins of Albion College women's wrestling program," director of athletics Jennifer Rushton said. "Jolynn has the energy and passion to lead this program and take it to new heights. She is committed to excellence in all facets and will help our student-athletes reach their full potential, both on and off the mat. Her background as a student-athlete and coach speaks for itself. I look forward to welcoming Jolynn to campus and supporting her in this role."
Harris competed in wrestling for three seasons with the Mavericks from 2019-22. She was a three-time NWCA Scholar All-American as Colorado Mesa finished fifth or better in each of those three seasons at the NCWWC National Championships.
She also qualified for the 2022 NCWWC National Championships individually.
A very accomplished diver, Harris originally attended the University of Iowa as a freshman in 2018-19 and competed on the Hawkeyes' diving team where she qualified for the Big 10 Championships and NCAA Division I Zone Diving in one and three-meter as well as platform.
She continued to compete in the sport during her time at Colorado Mesa and became one of the program's greatest divers.
Harris was a four-time CSCAA All-American and earned a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships in the one-meter in 2021. She was also named the RMAC Diver of the Year in 2022 and helped the Mavericks win three conference titles while being a four-time first-team All-RMAC honoree, eight-time RMAC Diver of the Week and holding two school records at the time of graduation.
In 2021, Harris was named Colorado College Diver of the Year at the Sportswomen of Colorado awards ceremony.
Also an accomplished student-athlete, Harris was named to the CSCAA Scholar All-America team three times while being a two-time CSC Academic All-American.
During the 2022-23 season, Harris served as a graduate assistant for the swimming & diving program at McKendree University -- a Division II institution in Lebanon, Ill.
The Des Moines, Iowa native graduated as a three-sport athlete from Abraham Lincoln High School in 2018. A four-year letterwinner in boys wrestling, she was the Iowa AAU and AAU Summer Junior Olympic freestyle champion at 130 pounds as a senior in 2018. Harris also went 2-2 at 127 pounds as a member of Team Iowa at Fargo and was the 130-pound USA Wrestling Iowa women's freestyle state champion and the regional folkstyle champion in 2017.
A conference champion diver all four years of high school, Harris placed 15th at the state meet as a freshman, fifth as a sophomore, fourth as a junior and second as a senior. She was also a team captain as a senior and won the Tom Cady Achievement Award in 2018.
Harris also competed in track & field for Abraham Lincoln where she was a four-year letterwinner and two-time team captain. She qualified for the state meet in the 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, shuttle hurdle relay and 4x400-meter relay as a senior.
Additonally, Harris was a member of the National Honor Society and was a four-year section leader in the marching, concert and jazz bands.
