ALBION, Mich. - The Albion College men's swimming team defeated Kalamazoo College in a dual meet, 165-64, at Albion's Dean Aquatic Center Saturday, Oct. 30.
The men's win is believed to be the first win over Kalamazoo since 1971.
"I'm very pleased with how both the men and women swam this early in the season," said head coach Keith Havens. "They've been working really hard."
Among the men's swimmers who worked really hard on this day were senior William Green and junior John Fodell. Green won the 100-meter freestyle in 49:59, the 200 freestyle in 147:54 and the 500 freestyle in 456:48. Fodell won the 100 breaststroke in 104:36 and the 200 IM in 4:31.64.
Also picking up first-place finishes for the men were junior A.J. Dancho who won the 1,000 freestyle in 10:22.22 and sophomore Chase Bacon who won the 100 butterfly in 54.91.
The two relay teams also posted victories. In the 200 freestyle relay, Michael Frenchi, Darren Montyla, John Salvador and Mark Weismiller swam a 1:33.15 for the win. Montyla, Frenchi, Fodell and Bacon won the 200 medley relay with a 1:42.85 time.
Albion sophomore diver Dan Fradeneck won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with scores of 278.7 and 244.05, respectively. By doing so, he qualified for the national meet. Fellow sophomore Brandon Reiss finished second in both events with scores of 233.5 and 191.45, respectively.
