Weaver Impressive in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS – Amanda Weaver was the first Division III runner to complete the 5K course in the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships. The senior from Marshall reached the finish line in 17 minutes, 58 seconds, trailing four runners from Grand Valley State and a pair of Saginaw Valley State.

Albion's top three men – Matt Melvin, Mitchell Klingler, and Paul Lewis – also had an impressive performance as they were separated by two seconds at the finish. Melvin and Klingler finished 20th and 21st, respectively, with identical times of 25:26.7. Lewis was 22nd at 25:28.6

The Albion men finished sixth out of 21 Division II, Division III, NAIA, and community college teams. First-year runners Mitch Clinton (26:48.2) and John Forsyth (27:06.7) completed the Britons' top five.

Sophomores Rachel Derocher and Victoria Sochor ran in a two-second window as Albion finished eighth out of 19 Division II, Division III, NAIA, and community college women's teams. Derocher was 60th to finish (19:26) and Sochor (19:27.4) and Miley (19:28.6) were close behind.

First-year athlete Theresa Hencsie was the Britons' No. 5 runner (19:53.2).
