ALMA, Mich. – Albion College received its usual first-place performances from swimmers Brian Fiorillo and Julie Okorn in its dual meet against Alma College, but the divers made an impression on first-year coach Jake Taber.
Phil Bommarito, an Albion High School graduate making his collegiate debut, won the men's 1-meter event and Antonio Caccamo helped the team by scoring a runner-up finish. In the women's events, Amy Bell and Lauren Rao took the top two places. Bell won 1-meter, and Rao moved to the top of the standings in 3-meter.
Fiorillo was the first to touch the wall in three events – sweeping the freestyle events and adding a win in the 100 breaststroke – to lead the men in a 146-129 loss. Brad Melpolder added a first-place performance in the 500 freestyle and he swam the final leg of the first-place freestyle relay (with Josh Boren, Austin Bateman, and Tom Parsons).
In the women's events, Mackenzie Chesley swept the butterfly events Anna Hargrove won the 100 freestyle and Julie Okorn traded strokes with Alma's Miranda Anderson in the distance freestyle events. Okorn won the 500 free, but Alma pulled out a 169-131 victory over the Britons. Hargrove and Okorn also swam on the winning freestyle relay with Lauren Pawelec and Laura Steavenson.
