Archer's 78 Keeps Albion In MIAA Men's Golf Chase

WEST OLIVE – Though it sits sixth in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's golf standings after 72 holes, Albion College is very much alive in the chase for one of the four berths in the spring rounds to determine the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championships.

Albion placed fourth in the Monday league jamboree at the Wuskowhan Players Club to remain 10 strokes behind fourth-place Adrian. The Britons posted a 321 total Monday to bring their 72-hole score to 1,258.

Calvin College won the Monday jamboree with a 304 to bring its league-leading total to 1,213. The Knights are followed by Trine University (1,235), Hope College (1,242), Adrian College (1,248), Alma College (1,255), Albion, Olivet College (1,270), and Kalamazoo College (1,305).

Alex Archer, a senior from Grand Ledge, was 4-over after two holes Monday, but he rebounded nicely to finish with a round of 78. Taylor Margolis (80), Brent Koaches (81), and Taylor DesEnfants (82) also contributed to Albion's score.

The league teams will gather in Angola, Ind., Thursday for the fifth jamboree of the fall season.
