CHICAGO – Paul Lewis returned to the front of the pack and Matt Melvin turned in another fine performance for the Albion College men's cross country team Saturday as the Britons ran in the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational. Albion finished 19th out of 47 teams in the event.
A junior who prepped at Albion High School, Lewis posted his first sub-26 minute time of the season. He completed the course in 25 minutes, 58 seconds to reach the finish 37th out of more than 450 runners.
Melvin shaved eight seconds off his season-best time to finish 46th, four seconds behind Lewis.
The gap between Melvin and No. 3 runner Mitchell Klingler was 1:09 as Klingler finished his race in 27:11. Mitch Clinton (28:02) and Kendall Maddox (28:06) completed Albion's top five.
Albion's next meet is Friday in Grand Rapids as it is entered in the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships.
