HOLLAND, Mich. – Albion College swimmers Anna Hargrove and Julie Okorn posted first-place finishes in multiple events Saturday, but their effort was not enough to overcome Hope College's depth in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet. Hope had at least the top two finishers in seven events to earn a 177-108 victory.
Hargrove won three events, the 100- and 200-yard freestyles and the 200-yard individual medley. She completed the 100 in 55.17 seconds, a season-best.
Okorn shaved 10 seconds off her season-best time to win the 1,650-yard freestyle. She completed the race in 18:03.72 to win the event by 28 seconds over the second-place swimmer. Swimming the 100-yard butterfly for the first time this season, Okorn posted a winning time of 1:01.39.
Claire Van Raaphorst swam unopposed in the 200-yard butterfly and she finished the race in 2:31.21.
Claire Wittkowski and Laura Steavenson scored a second-place finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke and 5000-yard freestyle, respectively, and Amy Bell, Kara Bowers, Rachel Francis and Emily Pinter contributed to Albion's team score with third-place performances in their respective events.
Albion will compete at home for the final time this season Feb. 2 when Calvin College visits the Dean Aquatic Center. The first event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
