ALBION, Mich. – Anna Hargrove and Julie Okorn combined for 44 of Albion College's 108 points as the women's swimming & diving team opened the dual meet portion of the season with a 190-108 loss to Calvin College.
Hargrove touched the wall first in the 50- and 200-yard freestyle events and she was second in the 200 backstroke. Okorn won the distance freestyle events and was the runner-up in the 200 butterfly. Albion also received nine points when Jourden Burke placed first in the 100 backstroke.
"It was a close meet after Anna won the 50 free and that's when Calvin flexed its muscle," Albion Coach Jake Taber said. "It was encouraging that we were in every race. We'll continue to build on that."
Albion received seven points in the 100 breaststroke as Kylene Slocum and Claire Wittkowski finished second and third, respectively. Slocum added a third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke.
Haley DeFeyter was the runner-up to Okorn in the 1,000 freestyle. Molly Blank and Lauren Cook finished third in the 50 and 100 free, respectively.
Albion will travel to Kalamazoo College for a Nov. 2 dual meet.
