Albion Routs Alma In Women's Tennis

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College easily won the three doubles matches and four of the six singles contests as it stormed to a 8-1 win over Alma College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's tennis action.

Marissa Cloutier, Irene Chen and Katie Blumberg – the top three players in the singles lineup – lost just seven games combined in winning their matches in straight sets. Marissa Messenger also won the No. 5 singles match in straight sets.

No. 4 singles was the match of the day as Albion's Heather Vogt and Alma's Maggie Miller split the first two sets. Vogt won the first set in a tiebreaker and she took the match by outscoring her opponent, 10-8, in the super breaker to decide the match.

Albion lost six games in winning the three doubles matches.

Albion, 4-3 overall and 2-0 against MIAA rivals, is scheduled to travel to Adrian College for a Tuesday league match.
