GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Albion College head swimming & diving coach Jake Taber has always maintained the Britons depth is better suited for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship in February. Swimming in a dual meet for the first time this season, Albion won five events in a 172-128 loss at Calvin College.
Sarah Kilbride swam to first place in the 100 butterfly and 400 individual medley and she was second in the 200 butterfly and the third swimmer on the Britons 200 medley relay. Anna Hargrove, the first swimmer on the 200 medley relay, took first place in the 100 backstroke and second in the 200 backstroke. Kylene Slocum and Lauren Pawelec were the other two swimmers on the relay.
In distance freestyle events, Laura Steavenson achieved a first place finish in the 500 and she was the runner-up in the 200. Albion scored nine points in the 1,000-yard race as Haley DeFeyter was second, Kaileigh Krupp was third, and Tess Haadsma was fourth.
Albion also had good depth in the breaststroke events. Slocum was second in the 100, followed by Hailey Sambor in third, and Claire Wittkowski in fourth. The order of finish in the 200 was Sambor second, Wittkowski third and Slocum fourth.
Albion will make its home debut at 11 a.m. Nov. 1 with a dual meet against Kalamazoo College inside the Dean Aquatic Center.
