ALMA, Mich. – Sarah Kilbride and Laura Steavenson won a pair of individual events and Albion had enough depth to force a close meet with Alma in a dual meet of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals.
Alma secured first-place points in 10 of the 16 events to eke out a 151-147 victory over Albion.
Steavenson cruised to first place in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing the race in 5:28.96 for a 12 ½ second margin of victory over Alma's Taylor Musselman. Steavenson achieved a time of 2:02.03 in the 200 freestyle to win the race by 3 ½ seconds over Alma's Victoria Bishop.
Steavenson joined Madison Vaive, Molly Blank and Abigail Slager for first-place points in the 200 freestyle relay. The Britons' time of 1:44.13 was four seconds better than Alma's.
Kilbride won the butterfly events, posting times of 28.44 in the 50 and 1:01.72 in the 100. Slager and Jourden Burke followed Kilbride as Albion had the top three performers in the 50.
Albion had depth in a number of events.
Kylene Slocum, Kilbride and Mackenzie Chesley placed in the 100 freestyle. Slocum was the winner in 56.49 seconds with Kilbride and Chesley in third and fourth.
Claire Wittkowski, Tess Haadsma and Kara Bowers finished second, third, and fourth, respectively, in the 1,650 freestyle.
Alex Wilkins and Kaileigh Krupp were third and fourth in the 200 free.
Slager and Haley Wallis were third and fourth in the 50 backstroke.
Kylene Slocum and Hailey Sambor were second and third in the 50 and 100 breaststroke events.
Vaive and Blank were second and third in the 500 freestyle. Vaive added second-place points in the 100 backstroke.
Meghan Meader and Julia Russell took second and third in the diving events.
Albion is idle until Dec. 5-6 when it swims in the Carthage (Wis.) College Invitational.
