LANSING – Jessica Shaw turned in the third-best ever set by an Albion College women's runner at the 6 kilometer distance to finish as the first Division III runner in the Spartan Invitational.
A sophomore from Allegan, Shaw improved on her personal record by 37 seconds when she reached the finish line in 22 minutes, 33 seconds. She was the 28th runner in a field of more than 300 to reach the finish line. The talented field included runners from nationally ranked squads from Michigan State, Hillsdale College, Grand Valley State University, Saginaw Valley State University, and Hope College.
Megan Wickens improved her time on the Forest Akers course by six seconds from last year when she reached the finish in 23:49. She finished among the top third as the 91st runner.
Emily Allison (24:30), Leanne Wegley (24:54), Victoria Sochor 25:13, Allison Snyder (26:04) and Sage Beauregard (27:08) completed Albion's top seven.
Albion will run against all of its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals for the first time this season Sept. 27 when the squads gather in Kalamazoo for the league jamboree.
