KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Mitch Clinton was the ninth runner to finish the 8K course in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's cross country jamboree, but the gap between him and Albion's No. 2 runner kept the Britons from finishing higher in the team standings.
Albion finished sixth with a total of 155. The Britons were seven points behind fifth-place Olivet College and 22 off the pace set by fourth-place Trine University. Calvin College (29), Adrian College (65) and Hope College (76) were the top three teams.
Clinton, a junior from Plymouth who prepped at Canton High School, reached the finish in 26 minutes, 31 seconds. Just nine seconds separated Clinton from the No. 5 individual, Trine's Adam Schaaf.
Albion's next four runners were sophomores or first-year athletes.
There was a 105-second gap until Erik Davis reached the line at 28:16. He was the 42nd individual runner.
Drew Snider (28:41), Alex Dermody (28:43), and Jon Wylie (29:37) completed Albion's top five.
Albion's next race is the Benedictine University Invitational on Oct. 10.
