WOOSTER, Ohio – In an unusual twist, Albion Coach Jake Taber said his team swam better on the second day of back-to-back dual meets.
Derek Bosko won the sprint freestyle events and carried the Britons to a come-from-behind victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay and Sebastian Tostado won the 200 free and 200 IM as Albion lost a dual meet to the College of Wooster, 158-130.
Albion was trailing when Bosko dove in for the final leg of the relay, but he swam his 50 yards in 21.29 seconds for a final time of 1:29.75 for a quarter of a second margin of victory over Wooster's 'A' team. David Alday, Nick Deppner and Nick Burris swam the first three legs.
In individual events, Bosko achieved times of 22.24 seconds in the 50 free and 48.22 seconds in the 100. Tostado's winning times were 1:45.98 in the 200 free and 2:00.63 in the 200 IM. Tostado also earned runner-up points in the 100 butterfly (53.87 seconds).
Andrew Mattson produced 12 points in the distance freestyle events, setting a time of 10:50.78 to win the 1,000 by less than two seconds over Wooster's James Lorenzin and finishing third in the 500 in 5:14.97.
The 500 free was Albion's most productive event, with Blake Blair taking first (5:03.07) and Alday coming in second (5:12.00).
The homestretch of the dual season starts with a Jan. 24 home meet against Wabash. Albion's final dual meet is a Jan. 30 home meet against Olivet.
