GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The championship scoring format of a quadrangle meet helped Albion rack up 267 points to sit in second place after the first session of competition.
Calvin College added up 360 points to take the lead, but Ohio Northern University (240) and Carthage College (222) trail the Britons.
"The format highlights our strength," Head Coach Jake Taber said. "We're a deep team."
Albion had five scoring swimmers in the 200 individual medley. Anna Hargrove set a second-place time of 2:17.44, finishing two-tenths of a second behind Carthage's Kate Hugo. Kylene Slocum was third, Abigail Slager was fifth, Sarah Kilbride was sixth and Mary Noble was seventh.
Albion also picked up 26 points in the 500 freestyle as Katie Ferraro was fifth and Camila Manrique was seventh.
Amy Krausmann and Lauren Pawelec placed seventh and 10th, respectively, in the 50 freestyle.
Moore, Slocum, Kilbride and Hargrove were the runner up in the 400 medley relay, as the Britons 4:08.58 was a second off the pace set by Ohio Northern.
Moore, Slocum, Molly Blank and Lauren Pawelec were third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.02).
Saturday morning events include the 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, and the 800 freestyle relay.
