EAST LANSING, Mich. – In its final competitive race prior to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree, Albion College cross country runners took on the best Division I and II squads had to offer in the Spartan Invitational.

Jessica Shaw was the first Albion woman to finish the women's 6K course. She was 31^st overall, reaching the finish line at the Forest Akers East Golf Course in 22:51.

Sophomore Leanne Wegley and first-year runners Leaha Sinnaeve and Maddy Denison completed Albion's top four. Wegley's completed the course in 25:24 and there was a 55-second gap between her and Denison.

Morgan Button, a junior, was the fifth Albion runner, crossing the finish line in 26:35.

Men's Race

Mitchell Clinton and Alex Dermody finished in a 22-second gap. Clinton finished 111^th out of 390 runners, reaching the finish line of the 8K course in 27:20. Dermody was the 146^th runner to finish.

First-year runners Andrew Wittland (28:06), Brett Navarre (28:16), Mark Klingel (28:46), Kurt Swaton (28:48), and Lucas Lusk (28:50) ran in a tight gap to complete Albion's top seven.

Next Week

The West Ottawa Golf Course in Holland, Mich., will be the site of the MIAA Jamboree. The meet is set for Sept. 26 with the women's race at 11 a.m. and the men to follow at noon.
