Maddalena, Hinkle Lead Men's Golf In Jackson

By Brandon Rincon

JACKSON, Mich. – Playing on an unfamiliar course, senior Connor Maddalena had a consistent weekend with rounds of 78 and 79 at The Grande as part of the Irish Hills Intercollegiate Tournament. With two rounds in the 70s by the senior leader, it helped the Britons to their 36-hole team total of 647.

A stroke behind was Jake Hinkle who produced rounds of 77 and 81 which is around his average for the season so far. Playing at a difficult course and not really sure of where to miss the ball, the team can take some positives away from the weekend as they make their way toward the home stretch of the season.

"The men had an up and down weekend generally, but Connor was very consistent, which we need.  Never having played The Grande before, I think everyone hit enough good shots to take good things away from the weekend, even with the scores not being anyone's best," Head Coach Jordan McArleton said.

Matt Falls had consistent rounds as well as he came out of the weekend with a pair of 82s and Ryan Bomya's second round of an 83 also contributed to the team score.

"Getting back to league play on Wednesday, we expect better results when we know where to miss the ball."

Josh Gibson, sophomore from Hope College was the medalist as he had rounds of 71-68.

The Britons will have some practice time at the course this week since their next event is the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree at the Watermark Country Club on Sept. 26.
