Britons Complete 'Encouraging' Training Trip

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Sarah Kilbride and Anna Moore won two individual events and joined the winning 200 medley relay team, Mary Noble swam to first place in two individual events, and Marisa DeCamp was unopposed in the diving events as Albion College dunked Southwestern University, 172-105, on the final day of the team's training trip between semesters.

Kilbride achieved times of 2:38.58 in the 200 breaststroke and 2:18.75 in the 200 individual medley.

"Sarah swam a smart race in the individual medley and they created an opportunity for her to swim the freestyle the way she did," Albion Head Coach Jake Taber said.

Moore sprinted to victory in the 50 freestyle in 25.95 seconds and she was first to the wall in one of her signature events, the 200 backstroke, in 2:15.64.

Kilbride and Moore were joined by Kylene Slocum and Nicole McCann on the medley relay team that achieved a time of 1:52.36.

Slocum and McCann contributed first place performances in individual events, as well. Slocum in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.21) and McCann in the 100 freestyle (57.15).

McCann led Albion to a 1-2-3 finish in the freestyle. She was followed by Camila Manrique and Abigail Slager. Slager added a runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle.

Taber credited Noble with taking advantage of the opportunities given to her. She responded by swimming past the fields in the 200 and 500 freestyle events. She completed the 200 in 2:05.44 and the 500 in 5:29.91.

Katie Ferrero added a first place finish in the 1,000 freestyle (11:22.38) and Alexandra Horman did likewise in the 100 butterfly (2:17.75).

The meet at Southwestern was the capstone of a successful trip to Texas.

"It was a really nice way to end an encouraging trip," Taber said. "It would have been easy to find excuses coming off a week of training. We put a lot on them between dry land workouts, the weight room and in the water."

The Britons will return to Michigan Wednesday to begin training for a Jan. 14 dual meet against the nationally ranked squad from Calvin College.
