ELSAH, Ill. – Albion College held its own against 18 of the top teams in Division III Saturday.
Running in the Principia College Cowbell Classic – the de facto Pre-National Invitational – the Britons finished 18th in the field of 38 teams.
The field included nine of the top 15 teams in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Division III ranking.
Andrew Bill was the first Albion runner, finishing 39th when he completed the 8K course in 25:55.3.
There was a 45-second gap between Bill and Andrew Wittland, the Britons No. 2 runner. Wittland was 104th, reaching the finish in 26:40.31.
Adam Ditri and Zach Reynolds were next, reaching the finish in 27:11.7. Kurt Swaton, who gained his place on the travel team by leading Albion in the Lansing Invitational last week, was the No. 5 runner, achieving a time of 27:36.9.
Lucas Lusk (27:37.84) and Kiehl Smith (27:42.98) completed Albion's top seven.
Albion will travel to Adrian, Mich., Oct. 28 for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship.
