Seniors shine in final home meet

ALBION, Mich. – Sarah Kilbride was the winner in the 200-yard breaststroke and 400 individual medley and Abigail Slager was awarded first place points in the 100 backstroke as Albion College celebrated senior day and their final home dual meet of the season with a 157-112 victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Kalamazoo College.

"Sarah had really good swims," Albion Head Coach Jake Taber said of the senior captain from Bloomfield Hills, Mich. "She's a versatile swimmer, a fantastic leader and has been monumental in what we want this program to be. We're going to have some tough decisions coming up in terms of the events she'll swim in the MIAA Championship."

Slager also achieved a season-best in the 400 IM, an event she had not been entered since November.

The day for the reminder of the senior class included Jessica Bush swimming the 200 butterfly for the first time this season while preparing to depart for a graduate school interview, Julia DiFiore with one of her lifetime best swims in a runner-up finish in the 200 butterfly and Haley Wallis gaining runner-up points in the 200 backstroke.

"This is a really outstanding group of seniors in a lot of ways," Taber said. "Our program was in a different spot four years ago when they were seniors in high school. They had a lot to do with moving this program forward. This is a group that has really made a difference for the program."

Youth was served as first-year swimmer Amanda Quitos turned in the best times in the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle, sophomore Rileigh Eding sprinted to victory in the 50 freestyle and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay with Kaitlind Hooper, Tia Ulieme and Grace Siefker, sophomore Alexandra Horman swam past the field in the 500 freestyle, sophomore Nicole McCann had the best time in an exhibition swim in the 200 backstroke and juniors Cammila Manrique and Anna Moore won their freestyle events and were members of the 200 freestyle relay.

Albion will take a break from competition until the first weekend of February. The Britons have a Feb. 2 dual meet at Eastern Michigan University and a Feb. 3 MIAA meet at Alma College.
